Dr. Hahnemann studied traditional allopathic medicine but was dissatisfied with the crude form of treatments given to patients during his time (From year 1755 to Year 1843).He also started to work as a writer and translator. WhiIe translating Mr. william CuIlen's (1710-1790) famous 'Materia Medica' , he noticed that Cinchona, the bark of the Peruvian tree was effective in treating Malaria. Hahnemann ingested some of the bark to investigate what would happen and he experienced symptoms like fever, joint pain and shivering , symptons very similar to those of Malaria itself.

This learning led to a series of extensive experiments and he discovered the remedial powers of drugs and inert substances like vegetable charcoal, metals, silica, lycopodium etc. He established that all effective drugs produce symptoms in healthy individuals similar those of diseases that they treat.
